Video surveillance and Wi-Fi network in Lugoj – switch replacement and Dahua NVR setup

The problem and the objective of the work

I carried out the work in Lugoj, Timiș County, on a surveillance system and local network that required diagnosis and reconfiguration. I found that the existing switch was faulty and replaced it with a 16-port switch. In addition to the equipment fault, some cameras had addresses on a different network from the recorder, preventing them from connecting correctly.

Switch diagnosis, replacement and configuration

I checked the equipment connections and replaced the faulty switch. I configured the new switch and checked network communication. The photograph of the FS S2805S-24TF-P switch in the gallery shows the old unit that was taken out of service, not the new 16-port switch.

Dahua NVR configuration and camera reconnection

The recorder used is a Dahua DHI-NVR5232-EI. NVR stands for Network Video Recorder: it receives images from cameras connected to the network. I corrected the cameras’ network configuration, added them to the recorder and checked the status of each channel.

• Identifying the cameras and correcting their network addresses so they could communicate with the NVR.
• Adding missing cameras and correcting their connection settings.
• Reordering channels and removing a duplicate entry from the device list.
• Checking the images and Online status of all 16 cameras.
• Adjusting detection, audible warning and lighting settings on cameras that support these features.

Configuring 2 routers, 2 range extenders and a Wi-Fi camera

I configured the two routers in the installation, including the TP-Link Archer AX73 and the ZTE router, as well as the TP-Link RE505X and RE815XE range extenders. Range extenders are devices used to extend Wi-Fi network coverage. I also configured the Wi-Fi camera for use on the client’s network.

Verification results

During the check at the end of configuration, all 16 cameras were Online in the NVR. I checked the wired connection, communication with the recorder and internet access separately, to distinguish a working network from merely having a cable connected. The project combined the repair of a hardware fault with reconfiguration of the network and surveillance system.
